7 Deadly Marketing Sins to Avoid On Your Web Site

The Internet has opened up a whole new frontier for small
business owners – and along with it have come new
technologies, new marketing strategies, and even a new
vocabulary.
But while much about the Internet is new, there are still
some classic “old” marketing mistakes you need to avoid on
your web site: 1. Lack of focus. Your web site should concentrate
primarily on the product or service you’re selling. Don’t
junk up your site with unnecessary links or graphics.
2. Hard-to-read fonts or graphics. The average person
spends around 7 seconds on a given web site – so if your
goal is to keep somebody on your site until they buy, make
sure that it’s easy on their eyes. Stick to one or two main
font types and one or two main colors. Don’t use reverse
type (white letters on a black background) – and make sure
that the font is big enough for everybody to read.

3. Lack of quality content. People aren’t going to stick
around very long if your web site is just a haphazard
collection of links or an obvious attempt just to get
pay-per-click revenue. Make sure that you include as much
quality content on your site(informative articles, links to
useful web sites, etc.) as you can.
4. No call to action. You can have the best information,
the coolest graphics, and even the highest-quality offer –
but if you don’t go to the next step and actually ask your
customers to buy, you’ll lose out on a lot of potential
sales. Don’t be timid with your customers – after all, if
they’re at your site, they came to visit you.
5. Not being familiar with your target audience. Similar to
the first point, you need to know exactly who your ideal
customer is – and then tailor every single word and graphic
on your site to appeal to that customer.
6. Not enough testimonials. Without sufficient proof,
people aren’t going to buy your product. In this day and
age people are extremely skeptical – especially online – so
if you don’t have testimonials from people who have
actually used your product or service, people aren’t going
to buy from you. Even if you’re the most honest person in
the world, people just aren’t going to just take your word
for it.
7. Boring web sites. This is the ultimate marketing sin.
People won’t buy your product or service if you or your
site don’t have any personality – or don’t have anything
interesting to say.
These are just the tip of the “don’t-do-this” iceberg – but
if you start by ridding your web site of these 7 deadly
marketing sins, you’ll definitely be on the right track.

10 Ways To Get Your Ads Or Messages Noticed
Do you post to message boards, e-mail discussion
lists, classified ads sites, FFA sites or newsgroups?
People will usually read the subject line before they
read your ad or message, so it's important they get
noticed. Below are ten simple, but powerful tips to
get your ads or messages noticed.
1. Use extra white space creatively in your subject
line. You can add extra blank spaces between your
words or letters.
2. Combine capital letters with lower case letters.
Use all capital letters in every other word or use a
capital letter between every other lower case letter.
3. Add text symbols in your subject line. You could
use them between words and letters. Start and end
your subject with a text symbol. ( *, $, >,{,] )
4. Begin your subject line with the word "STOP!".
People have been trained their whole life to stop
what they are doing when they see that word.
5. Ask people a question in your subject line. We
all went to school and were repetitively branded to
answer questions.
6. Use the word "FR.EE" in your subject line. Your
offer should be attractive to your target audience.
It could be free information, software, trials, etc.
7. Begin your subject line with an "online smile :)".
People use smiles offline to gain people's attention
and to win their trust, why not use them online too.
8. Don't use unbelievable claims in your subject line.
People have or know some who has been ripped
off and trained themselves to ignore those claims.
9. Don't use all capital letters in your subject line.
It is hard to read, looks unprofessional, and on the
internet it's considered a symbol for shouting.
10. Test different subject lines to see which ones
draws the most traffic to your web site. Also, read
the FAQ before posting a message or ad anywhere.
